PFEIFFER RIDGE

A dynamic family retreat perches on a 5 acre ridge top site high above sea level with 270° views encompassing both the mountains and ocean edge of Big Sur. Diverse native habitats including chaparral, oak woodland, and redwood forest cover the dynamic terrain and reveal ecotones of unique native plant communities across the site. As a survivor of a recent wildfire, the landscape is bursting back to life, with native chaparral containing Arctostaphylos, Baccharis, Garrya, Heteromeles, and Larrea, all springing back from the charred earth. Our restoration efforts include these species, along with a diverse palette of grasses, succulents, groundcovers, and flowers, creating livable spaces with rich horticultural interest around this Studio Schicketanz home.
